Employment / Commercial Kitchen Manager
SUMMARY
Shepherds College is seeking a mission-driven Commercial Kitchen Manager to lead the daily operations of our on-campus commercial kitchen. This position plays a vital role not only in preparing nutritious meals for students and staff but also in mentoring Culinary Arts students who work alongside the kitchen staff each day as part of their hands-on vocational training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the daily preparation and service of lunch for students and staff during the academic year.
- Create and maintain rotating lunch menus that are nutritious, appealing, and budget conscious.
- Order food and supplies, manage inventory, and track the kitchen budget.
- Lead and support kitchen staff while fostering a positive and inviting kitchen culture.
- Collaborate daily with Culinary Arts instructors to provide meaningful work experiences for students in the kitchen.
- Supervise and coach Culinary Arts students in real-time as they work as part of the kitchen team—providing guidance, modeling professional standards, and supporting skill development.
- Ensure all food safety and sanitation procedures are followed consistently.
- Plan and execute occasional catering services for special campus events, engaging both staff and students in the process.
- Other responsibilities, as assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a culinary arts-related field (preferred) or an Associate’s degree in a culinary arts-related field (minimum requirement)
- At least 1-2 years of experience related to culinary arts, food preparation, commercial kitchen operations, etc.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. (preferred but not required)
- Customer service oriented
- Possess a high level of professionalism, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. (both verbal and written)
- Familiarity with food safety standards and budget management.
