Get Involved! / Shepherds College Sunday
Shepherds College Sunday is a day set aside to remember God's work in and through the ministry of Shepherds College and to recognize His continuous work in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Larry Cayton is the reason Shepherds College exists today. Born to Lornie and Arlene Cayton on November 12, 1948, Larry had Down syndrome during a time in history when children with disabilities were institutionalized and forgotten. Lornie and Arlene couldn't do that to a child given to them by God, a child they loved, so they sought other answers to find the help they needed. It was that journey that became the genesis for Shepherds College.
Every November, we ask churches to set aside a Sunday to highlight Shepherds to their congregations and take up a special offering to support our mission to students with IDD. Traditionally, this day was the second Sunday in November, the one closest to Larry's birthday. We realize churches today have more complex schedules, so we simply ask that you set aside one Sunday a year to help Shepherds College realize its important, God-given mission.
